CarMax worker caught allegedly shipping three pounds of pot to work

When in doubt, it’s probably not a good idea to ship felony amounts pot to your workplace–especially not on your day off. According to the Gastonia Police Department, a parcel containing three pounds of marijuana was found at a used-car dealership. The parcel was addressed to an employee employed by a vendor from CarMax in Gastonia in North Carolina. The CarMax workers receive parcels regularly, but this box was suspicious enough to warrant an investigation. The box was sent from Hollywood, California where weed was legal but not in such a large amount. Michael Williams, 39 was not at work when the package arrived and could not conceal it. Local police officers did not stop there: they refilled the container with three pounds of weights in order to make it look like bags of weed. This allowed Williams to testify against himself. This was enough evidence to cite him, and send him to prison. “[We] put items in the package that weighed approximately three pounds, resealed it, and waited to see Mr. Williams come to work to pick up that package,” Rick Goodale from GPD told Charlotte Observer. The GPD posted an image of what appeared to be three vacuum-sealed bags weighing approximately three pounds that were inside the parcel. When Williams returned to CarMax for his next shift to report to work, he confirmed that the package was for him. On May 22, police officers arrested him. California allows adults over 21 to possess cannabis but only up to 28.5 grams without a license. It is also illegal to ship pot across state lines. It is unusual to find cannabis in such large quantities at a workplace. “Most of the times, it is going to homes, it is very uncommon to go to a company,” Goodale said.Police with the GPD suspect that William’s operation is ongoing.Williams has been released on bail after posting bail. According to NORML, in North Carolina, 1.5 ounces up to 10 lbs. of cannabis is a felony punishable by 3-8 months of jail time and a fine of $1,000.
